GOLF COURSES

                                         Rat River Golf Course  


Two miles north of St. Pierre Jolys, nestled along the beautiful Rat River, lies one of Manitoba's most scenic and challenging 18 hole golf courses. The Rat River Golf Course is a public course that offers golf, great food, and friendly service in a truly relaxing and scenic setting. The golf course attracts not only the local residents, but also golfers from Winnipeg and elsewhere in Manitoba.  A mini golf course is  available at the St. Malo Provincial Park.

SCHOOLS: In 1925, a Christian Seminary was founded and today Providence College & Seminary is the largest school of it's kind in Canada attracting over 800 students from around the world. Children can attend Ecole St. Malo School which offers educaton in both French and English.

MEDICAL SERVICES: Excellent medical services can be accessed in St. Malo or at the De Salaberry Health Centre nearby.

FIRE DEPARTMENT: St-Malo is supported by a volunteer fire department.

SENIOR'S COMPLEX: St. Malo boasts a modern, 88 unit seniors' assisted housing complex.

WORKSHOP: A workshop that employs the mentally challenged is one of the valuable services that you can find in St. Malo

SKATING/CURLING RINKS: Dufrost has a curling rink with 3 sheets of ice. Otterburne has a curling rink as well.

PARKS: The Rural Municipality of De Salaberry is home to Manitoba's most frequently visited provincial park. Each summer, over 70,000 Manitobans visit the park making it one of the most popular tourist and recreational spots in the province. The St. Malo Provincial Park has all major amenities that provide a total experience for the family. This large cluster of quality amenities consist of two sand beaches, ample campsites and a man-made lake for swimming, fishing and canoeing. There is a restaurant, arcade and mini golf course available at the beach.

TRAILS: Winding through De Salaberry is a portion of the Trans Canada Trail called the Tall Grass Prairie.  On that trail are various places of interest and maps are available.  To learn more contact Manitoba Recreational Trails Association at 204-786-2688 or visit www.mrta.mb.ca For winter enthusiasts, there are over 30 kilometers of snowmobile trails that are also available for hiking and walking.

BASEBALL DIAMONDS: St. Malo has a baseball diamond with stands that can accommodate up to 300 fans.

ARENAS/COMMUNITY CENTRES: St. Malo has the largest sporting facility in the area with an arena seating up to 700 people. Dufrost has a community centre that seats approximately 125 people. Otterburne also has a community centre which seats 250 people.

BOATING: You can go canoeing at the St. Malo Provincial Park.

HORSEBACK RIDING: There is a privately owned facility that provides horseback riding.

ARCHERY RANGE: St. Malo sports a outdoor archery range that has 3-D life-size animals as targets.

FISHING: Ice fishing is a very popular activity in the St. Malo Provincial Park. 

ACCOMMODATIONS

Campgrounds: There are several privately owned campgrounds in the area, with daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal sites for your enjoyment. Services range from beach front to primitive, from no hook-ups to full service. There are open grassed sites, as well as, private treed and brush sites, with a hot tub and/or  playgrounds available.

Debonair Campground: Stay for a night in this 182 campsite recreation family park, but don't be surprised if you end up staying for the whole season. No matter what the temperature, there's a jetted commercial hot tub to unwind in when it's cool and a private sandy beach pond with floating slide and fountain/sprinkler to cool off in for those hot summer days. Other campground amenities include full and part serviced campsites, two large play structures, sand volleyball and horseshoe pits. Overnight camping and renewable seasonal leases with on-site winter storage is available. Another Beach option is the St. Malo Public Beach located a 5 minute walk from Debonair. St. Malo Provincial Park & Campground:  Located adjacent to the French Canadian Village of Saint Malo, just 64 km south of Winnipeg on Provincial Trunk Highway #59, Saint Malo Provincial Park is a year-round recreation area. Saint Malo Park has an artificial lake created by the damming of the Rat River. The park offers two beaches and is used for swimming, canoeing or sailboarding. One can explore the Rat River dam and dyke or wander the trails around the lake through an aspen forest.  Winter activities offer cross-country ski trails, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn buggy rides, mini golf and volleyball. The park has 239 heavily wooded camping sites, 101 which are electrically serviced. Bocage Cevila Campground has 70 sites available.

Cricket's  Campground has 20 sites available for camping.

Hotels/Lodging

St. Malo Motor Hotel is just a short walk or drive from St. Malo Provincial Park. They provide clean rooms with air conditioning, cable TV and private baths. There are four units with a capacity of 14. A restaurant is also available. Contact 204-347-5105 for more information.

Le St. Malo Lodge borders on St. Malo Park and provides housekeeping cabins,  a deck, a gas barbecue, satellite TV and a VCR. There is a beach nearby where you can go canoeing, kayaking, fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Tube rentals are available, as well as, paddle boats. Contact them at 1-866-226-6880.
