OLD PINAWA DAM
HERITAGE PARK

“The best Little Park
by a Dam Site"

Walking Trails in the Old Pinawa Dam Heritage Park

Introduction

Since their inception, the Friends of Old Pinawa have strived to make the Pinawa Dam Park more accessable to the public and to provide a place for recreation, education, to show our heritage and to provide environmental awareness and protection. But most of all, the Friends wanted to provide a place for people to enjoy the tranquility of the old dam site.

The Park has a series of trails some are being updated while others are being created at this time. The Old Pinawa Dam Park has a Townsite Heritage Walk, Old Pinawa Dam Educational Circuit, the Centennial Spillway Trail, and the Nature Trail. The Pinawa and Blue Water sections of the Trans-Canada Trail join at the Park

The Old Pinawa Self-guiding Trail is a tour of the old town of Pinawa and tells about life in the old town. Granite markers around the site mark points of interest in the trail guide. The brochure may be picked up at the trailhead or from the Park Attendent.

The Soundpost, in the picture above, contains a voice message from Ruth Dobbin, the daughter of the gardner Matt Pearson whom you will meet in the self-guiding trail brochure.

The Centennial Spillway Trail was announced jointly by Manitoba Hydro and Manitoba Conservation in June of 2006. More walking trails will be added. Stairs and boardwalks will make the walk easier and more enjoyable.

4. The Nature Trail

The Nature Trail starts behind the dam and goes past the Upper Falls. On the trail you can see the upper Pinawa Channel, meadows, a beaver pond, concrete structures from the dam, a flat rock shoreline, gently rushing water and so much more.

5. The Trans-Canada Trail

The Pinawa and the Blue Water sections of the Trans-Canada Trail meet at the Old Pinawa Dam Heritage Park. The trail goes through the park using part of the Heritage Walk and exits the park after going over a foot bridge and by the school house property.
