Community
Theatre
for Over Forty Years!
Since its inception in 1963, the Players have presented (including productions that included several one-act pieces) almost 100 plays for the entertainment of Pinawa and surrounding-area audiences, who have continued to support the group enthusiastically over the years The Pinawa Players is a member of the Association of Community Theatres of Manitoba (A.C.T. Manitoba), an organization of similar groups from across the province devoted to the promotion and development of amateur theatre in Manitoba. Each year, A.C.T. sponsors a drama festival hosted by one of its member groups at their home venue. The Pinawa Players welcomes anyone with an interest in becoming involved in amateur stage production, whether it be acting onstage or helping backstage such as in makeup, lighting, sound, set construction, set decoration, props, stage managing, costumes, publicity, etc. There’s no lack of jobs when a performance is being prepared! Anyone of any age is welcome and the group has neither formal membership requirements nor membership fees. It’s sufficient just to show up when a casting meeting is called and tell the director or producer what you might like to get involved in. And no previous experience is required! WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A MEMBER OF PINAWA PLAYERS? Firstly, it means a lot of fun. Ask anyone who has participated in the last 40 years and undoubtedly the answer will unanimous. Theatre does not constitute only acting. When becoming a member one can be involved in many capacities: acting, directing, backstage, costumes, make-up, technical, etc. Productions are held twice a year, fall and spring. It takes approximately three months of preparation for each play. Everyone is invited to attend the readings and decide how they would like to participate. The Players also play an active role in community activities such as participating in the annual Pinawa Birthday Weekend Parade, sponsoring the annual Carol Sing at the Pinawa Shopping Mall at Christmastime where all are invited to share songs of Yule, munch on caramel popcorn and sip hot apple cider. and, on occasion, helping with Pinawa Secondary School stage productions.
