ACT Drama Festival, 2006
Portage la Prairie

The Pinawa Players' production for the ACT Festival this year was the one-act play “Albert” directed by Linda Tait and Judith Simpson.  The cast of Roger Dutton, Tom Hilliard and Janet Hilliard were perfect in their roles of three foreigners who could not communicate in any language and their hand gesture communication attempts were hilarious.  The play was performed as a dress-rehearsal in Pinawa before playing before an extremely appreciative audience at the Festival in Portage la Prairie.

Congratulations to the director, cast and production crew of "It Runs in the Family"  for an excellent evening of entertainment.  The production was filled with many moments of hilarity and pure farce.  Every member of the cast gave an honest rendering of their character and worked hard to provide us with an evening full of laughter.

Over the River and Through the Woods

 by Joe DePietro

Presented November 24, 25, 26 2005

The Pinawa Players delivered on their promise of a lovely comedy on the weekend with their production of “Over the River and Through the Woods”.  Nick Cristano is a young man burdened with the task of telling both sets of grandparents that he is moving across the country. The family elders decide to take matters into their own hands, believing that all Nick needs is a wife to keep him anchored near them. Their desperation to keep their family together is poignant, to say the least, and the audience never left their side for a minute.

John Tait’s cast featured three newcomers to the Pinawa stoage, and we’re hopeful they’ll be here long enough to become veterans. Marc Zienkiewicz (Nick) was  perfectly cast and handled his role with aplomb. The two grandfathers, Michael Cavers and Gerald Turner were quite opposite in demeanor, but unified in their devotion to their grandson. Cara Daymond was the love interest invited to dinner by Gramma Emma (Connie Hamon) who doled out common sense to Nick when he needed it most. Judith Simpson and Connie Hamon appeared to have fun with their characters as the two Italian grammas. The outcome brought tears to the eyes, but they were tears of empathy and understanding at the importance of remembering the enduring spirit of the family.

As always, the set decoration rivalled that of a professional production.

Thank you, Players!
