The Maskwa Project is located just 10 minutes from Pine Falls on the banks of the Bear River (also known as the Maskwa River). The facility was founded on the principles of appropriate technology. Super insulation, passive solar gain and wood heat provide a cozy atmosphere in the Hazel Henderson Cottage, a.k.a. "The Big House". All cooking utilities are provided, but you will have to bring your own food. There is a wood fired sauna and a screened gazebo onsite. Canoes are available for short jaunts on the river. The facilities are rustic, yet functional, witness the composting outhouse. All combined this allows us to provide a low cost wilderness retreat to youths, students and to any who have limited income or to those who enjoy getting away from the fast paced technology that surrounds us in our day to day living. |
